The XX

I've been listening to 'The XX' a lot lately. I love their music it's a shame they are a bunch of indie kids. I'd imagined them looking suave and sexy like the characters from Cruel Intentions (I love you Sebastian!). However it's definitely worth buying their music, 'Crystalised' is my favourite track thus far.

La Fille sur Le Pont (The Girl on The Bridge)

I watched the most captivating film today. I haven't enjoyed any films in quite some time but this one really knocked my socks off. Whoever can make knife throwing look like having sex certainly has my attention! Vanessa Paradis really gives this film its cutting sexual edge. Directed by Patrice Laconte (1999) the film stars the hopeless Paradis searching for something for than a meaningless romp. After sucking up a wealth of temporary lovers she finds herself on a bridge tempting fate. Patrice Laconte goes out on a limb to remind us that "we always think that luck is what we don't have."

Thank God Laconte managed to give us an unconventional love story that will make you reconsider your attitude on life, love and luck without the gaudy "Eat, Pray, Love" attitude. Definitely worth at least one watch. Even if it's just to see what Vanessa Paradis looks like underneath the sheets...

The trailer doesn't give the film any justice, but here it is anyway!

I know it's barely even Winter yet.. but I already have Summer fashion on the brain... Probably because I missed out on a glorious Australian Summer this year by going to France to get catch hideous viruses and fatten up on home cooked meals 3 times a day... Besides the point!
I was walking through the thick carpet of autumn leaves today on my way to the train station and every time I walk down Riddell Parade I think about how much I love Autumn in Melbourne... But I can't stop thinking about the fashion in Summer!
I am off to London on the 28th of June so have banned myself from buying another red coat and have taken a vow of winter shopping celibacy! Some of my favourite Australian designers have really shown their true colours this season. Say hello to SS11 of Alice McCall http://www.vogue.com.au/fashion+shows/australian/alice+mccall+2011+12,s6877
and Miss Unkon!
The following photos are all from "Breakfast with Audrey" love... http://www.breakfastwithaudrey.com.au/index.php/2011/05/04/miss-unkon-springsummer-201112-rafw/

If Pocahontus was reincarnated as modern day white chick, she would wear Miss unkon. Just saying...

Love this lace floor length cape...

I know they have done it before but hell why not do it again! I love these half trains!

So I discovered the human obsession of self expression. At first I thought this a vain quest (to start a blog), now I see it as a means of sharing snippets of life, love and everything in between. My first post is a tribute to one of my favourite photographers Nan Goldin. You can't help look at her work and feel reminiscent of a time when you felt alone. http://www.matthewmarks.com/artists/nan-goldin/

Nan Goldin collaborated with the Australian label Scanlan & Theodore to produce one of the most organic fashion shoots I have seen. It focuses on self introspection but it captures youthful elegance with a harlequin touch. I love it when a good brand and photographer get together!
